Citicoline is a naturally occurring compound and an intermediate in phospholipid metabolism. After ingestion, it breaks down into choline and cytidine. Choline serves as a direct building block for the essential neurotransmitter acetylcholine, and has been shown to contribute to normal homocysteine metabolism, normal fat metabolism, and the maintenance of normal liver function.

Furthermore, the simultaneously released cytidine is converted into uridine – a nucleoside that is significantly involved in the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine for the maintenance and repair of brain cell membranes. Studies have investigated the dual action and its connection to mitochondrial energy production in the brain. Each daily dose (2 capsules) provides 500 mg of pure citicoline (CDP-choline)in excellent bioavailable quality.
